About SSSI

A Site of Special Scientific Interest is robustly protected by the government body Natural England. Centuries ago vast swathes of Britain’s countryside were covered in deciduous woodland. In mediaeval times woodland management and harvesting were integral to agriculture. As towns and settlements grew more wood was needed for housing and with the development of trade and the emergence of the mighty Royal Navy yet more wood was needed for shipbuilding while Britain expanded its empire.

In today’s modern more enlightened times our reliance on felling the mighty oak, our insatiable appetite for charcoal to fire the furnaces of industry has declined. Our desire to hunt the wild boar has been superceded by factory farming. Nowadays our appreciation of natural resources grows and gathers momentum. Preservation of our woodland with its associate positive effects on maintaining habitat for our rich diversity of wildlife is the responsibility of all of us. Britain’s intense variety of climate, terrain and stunning natural beauty of flora and fauna is incomparable. Carbon footprint has become the buzzword of modern living. Owning your part of Fryarne Park wood is your opportunity to make a real difference to offset your Carbon Footprint.

sampleAbout Canterbury Steeped in history the cathedral city of Canterbury has been an important settlement since Stone Age times. Lying at the junction of 3 roads leading from the important Roman ports of Reculver, Dover and Lympne it was strategically important for the Roman empire and its occupation of Ancient Britain.

In the dark days of Norman rule under Henry II Canterbury achieved notoriety with the murder of Thomas a Beckett in the cathedral.

Canterbury is better known in recent times as the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Primate of All England. Back in Saxon times Pope Gregory the Great sent Augustine to Canterbury to convert England to Christianity.

Nowadays Canterbury, with its rich heritage and cosmopolitan air is one of the most popular tourist destinations in England.
